Getting started

No sign-up, no install, and it works offline after the first load. You land on the Dashboard — a live bento home. The left rail is your workspace: every tool (Dashboard, Convert, Recipe, Spaces, Body, Finance, Invoice, Barcode, QR Code, Currency, Crypto, Calculator, Library) plus Favorites and Settings, with Home and the User Guide below. Preferences, favorites, saved items and history are stored privately in your browser.

Dashboard

The Dashboard is your landing home — a modern bento grid with three switchable layouts (Spotlight, Command, Minimal):

  • Universal search — type a value and press Enter to jump straight into Quick Convert.
  • Quick-launch tiles for every tool, plus pinned favorites.
  • Live currency & crypto tickers with a status that refreshes when you're online.
  • Recent activity merging conversions, the calculator tape and invoices.
  • A daily unit fact and a time-of-day greeting, with ambient motion and count-up stats.

Quick Convert

  1. Choose a category from the scrollable chip rail — Length, Area, Volume, Mass, Temperature and nine more, each with its own icon.
  2. Type a value in the From field; the large gradient result below updates instantly.
  3. Pick units for From and To from the unit menus.
  4. Swap the two units with the centre button to reverse the conversion.
  5. Copy the result to your clipboard, or Save it to Favorites.

Use the system switch in the top bar (US · UK · Metric) to flip definitions — it keeps your units but swaps to that system's variant. The Quick start rail offers common conversions in one tap, the Live · every unit panel shows your value across every unit in the family at once, and a Metric equivalent line appears whenever a non-metric unit is in play. The converter card gently tilts in 3D as you hover.

Recipe Mode

Recipe Mode is a full recipe builder, not just a converter:

  • Name your recipe and add a Recipe by author credit at the top.
  • Add ingredients with their amount and unit; every row is recalculated together into your chosen target system (US, UK or Metric).
  • Batch scale the whole recipe with one tap — ½×, 1×, 1.5×, 2× or 3× multiplies every amount at once, and a running total liquid volume updates as you go.
  • Save the recipe straight into Favorites, or Share it — a clean, formatted ingredient list (with converted amounts) opens your device's share sheet or copies to the clipboard.

Because a US cup is 237 mL, a metric cup is 250 mL, and a UK pint is ~20% larger than a US pint, Recipe Mode flags these pitfalls so a doubled or system-swapped recipe never goes wrong.

Square Footage

Square Footage turns the converter into a project estimator for flooring, tile, paint, turf or any area job:

  • Add areas and pick a shape for each — rectangle, square, circle or triangle — then enter its dimensions; every row's area is calculated and added into a running total.
  • Measure in feet, meters, yards, inches or centimeters; the total is always shown with its metric equivalent, so nothing is lost in translation.
  • Add a waste factor (5–15%) for cuts and offcuts and the app tells you how much material to actually order.
  • Enter a price per unit for an instant material-cost estimate.
  • Save the plan to Favorites, or Share a clean, formatted breakdown.

Body & Health

A complete personal-measurement and health workspace across all three systems:

  • Height ft/in ↔ cm and weight st-lb ↔ lb ↔ kg, both shown at once.
  • Live BMI with a colored under / healthy / over / obese band and your healthy-weight range.
  • Daily calories (BMR + TDEE) from your stats and activity level, with lose / maintain / gain targets and a protein / carb / fat macro split.
  • Ideal weight (Devine, Robinson, Hamwi) and body-fat % via the U.S. Navy tape method, with fat and lean mass.
  • Heart-rate zones from your age, plus shoe, ring and clothing size converters across US / UK / EU.

BMI and body-fat figures are general guides, not medical diagnoses; sizing varies by brand.

Finance

Seven money calculators, each itemized on a printable receipt — switch currency between $, £ and €:

  • Loan — amount, APR and term → monthly payment, total interest and total repaid.
  • Home Loan — price, down payment, rate and term, with Weekly / Biweekly / Monthly payment frequency.
  • Car Loan — price, down payment, trade-in and sales tax → amount financed and monthly payment.
  • Paycheck — gross pay (annual through hourly) minus 401(k), FICA and income tax → take-home, with an effective tax rate.
  • Sales Tax — add tax to a price, or extract the tax already inside a total.
  • Tip — bill, tip % and split between guests; and Savings — deposits compounded to a future value.

Estimates only — actual loan terms, taxes and fees vary by lender and region.

Invoice

Build a professional invoice that previews live as you type:

  • Your business & logo — upload any logo (it scales to fit) and add your contact details.
  • Bill to, line items, tax %, discount % and a deposit — totals and balance due recalculate instantly.
  • Quote / Estimate / Invoice document types, due-date presets (Net 7 / 14 / 30) and a PAID stamp.
  • Payment details with a scan-to-pay QR code.
  • Save to Favorites, Share as text, Download a self-contained file, or PDF — which prints the invoice full-page.

Barcode

Generate scannable 1-D barcodes entirely on your device:

  • Eight symbologies — Code 128, GS1-128, EAN-13, UPC-A, EAN-8, Code 39, Code 93 and ITF — with live check-digit validation.
  • Style the bar width, height, color, quiet zone and an optional caption.
  • Batch & labels — generate a numbered sequence and print a label sheet.
  • Scan a barcode from an image, and download as PNG or vector SVG.

QR Code

Design styled, scannable QR codes that work offline:

  • 11 content types — text, URL, Wi-Fi, email, phone, SMS, contact card, WhatsApp, calendar event, payment and location.
  • Style with one-tap themes, dot shapes, gradients, a custom eye color, transparent background and a center logo.
  • “Scan me” frame with an editable caption, error-correction control and quiet margin.
  • Scan a QR from an image, Save to Favorites, copy the image, or download PNG / SVG.

Currency & Crypto

Two live-rate converters that cache on your device and fall back to a snapshot offline:

  • Currency — convert across 19 world currencies at live exchange rates, with popular pairs.
  • Crypto — the top 1,000 coins with official logos; convert crypto-to-currency or crypto-to-crypto, and watch a live bubble field sized by 24-hour movement.

Rates are indicative — confirm with your bank or exchange before transacting.

Advanced Calculator

Do the math and convert the answer in one step. The keypad includes a scientific mode (sin/cos/tan, log/ln, √, powers, π, factorial) with a DEG/RAD toggle, memory keys (MC / MR / M+ / M−) and tax & percentage shortcuts. Type expressions with your keyboard — Enter evaluates, Esc clears — and every result lands on a tappable calc tape. Pick a from and to unit to convert the answer, or Open in Quick Convert.

Receipt

A point-of-sale receipt builder with a live thermal-receipt preview. Add line items (description, qty, unit price); set a tax rate, a service charge, a percentage or fixed discount and a tip; pick a Sale, Refund or Quote type; and optionally turn on cash rounding. The total and change due calculate automatically. Print it, download a standalone HTML copy, copy the text, or save it — and reopen saved receipts anytime.

Markets

A markets dashboard built from free, live data sources — nothing fabricated. Live elements include gold (via the PAX Gold token), the global crypto market cap, 24h volume and BTC dominance, the top 24h gainers and losers, trending coins, USD forex pairs and the crypto Fear & Greed index. Stock indices, individual stocks, commodities and bond yields are listed for reference; live quotes for those need a paid market-data provider, so no prices are shown rather than invented.

History

A unified activity log of everything you've done — conversions, calculations and saved receipts, invoices, recipes, area plans, barcodes and QR codes. Filter by category, see live counts, and tap any entry to reopen it in its tool. Quick-access Favorites and History icons also sit in the workspace top bar. Everything is stored only on your device.

Unit Library

A searchable reference for every supported unit, with two tabs:

  • Units — search by name or symbol (for example, gallon, °C or knot) and browse units grouped by family. Open any unit for a comprehensive detail page: a 3D animated hero showing its symbol, quick facts (system, family, source authority), its exact definition (e.g. 1 mi = 1.609 km), any usage note, a one-tap Convert this unit button, and a full table of what 1 unit equals across the family.
  • FAQ — an accordion of common measurement questions: US vs UK gallons, US vs metric cups, pints, what SI means, how accurate the factors are, why °F→°C needs an offset, and mass vs weight.

Favorites & recipes

Favorites is your quick-access shelf, split into two sections:

  • Saved recipes — full recipes saved from Recipe Mode, each card showing its name, ingredient count, target system and author. Open reloads it exactly as saved, Share sends the formatted recipe, and you can remove it any time.
  • Saved conversions — press Save on any Quick Convert pairing (e.g. Mile → Kilometer) to pin it for one-tap recall, so you never re-pick the category and units. Copied results are also logged automatically as recent history.
  • Saved invoices & QR codes — invoices and QR codes you save get their own cards here, each with open, share and remove actions.

Settings

  • Measurement system — set your default of US Customary, UK Imperial, Metric (SI), or auto-detect from your device locale.
  • Display precision — choose 2 to 9 significant digits; results re-round live.
  • Appearance — switch between the dark and light canvas. Your choice is remembered, and the entire app (including the workspace rail and Recipe/Library pages) is fully themed in both.

Accuracy note

Factors are sourced from NIST SP 811 and the BIPM SI Brochure and stored in SI base units. For trade, fuel or other legally-regulated measurement, confirm the figure and system label against the governing authority in your region before relying on it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Detailed answers covering every tool, setting and policy — conversions, recipes, square footage, body & health, finance, invoices, receipts, barcodes, QR codes, live currency, crypto and markets, the calculator, the dashboard, privacy, offline use and accessibility.

Getting started

Is I Smart Measure free to use?
Yes — completely free, forever, with no account, sign-up or paywall. There are no ads, no trials and no "pro" tier. Every tool is unlocked from the first visit and runs entirely in your browser.
Do I need to create an account or log in?
No. There is no login because there is no server holding your data. Your preferences, favorites and history are saved only in your own browser, so you can start using any tool immediately.
What can the app actually do?
It's a full measurement workspace in one tab: a universal unit converter (13 families), Recipe Mode, Square Footage estimator, Body & Health, Finance calculators, Invoice and Receipt builders, Barcode and QR generators, live Currency, Crypto and Markets, a scientific Calculator, a cited Unit Library, plus a Dashboard, Favorites and History.
How do I move between tools?
Use the sidebar (or the menu on mobile) to switch tools, or jump straight to one with a URL hash — for example #convert, #recipe, #spaces, #body, #finance, #invoice, #receipt, #barcode, #qrcode, #currency, #crypto, #market, #calc, #library or #log. The Dashboard's universal search also takes you anywhere.

Conversions & accuracy

What measurement families are supported?
Thirteen families: length, area, volume, mass, temperature, pressure, energy, power, speed, angle, data, electrical and fuel economy — each with many units, from everyday ones to specialist scientific and trade units.
How accurate are the conversions?
Every value is held internally in SI base units using factors from NIST SP 811 and the BIPM SI Brochure, then converted out and rounded to your chosen precision. Because there is a single canonical value behind every unit, round-tripping (A→B→A) stays consistent. For legally regulated trade or fuel measurement, always confirm against your local governing authority.
How do I change how many digits are shown?
Open Settings and adjust Display precision between 2 and 9 significant digits. Every result across the whole app re-rounds instantly. You can also turn thousands separators on or off there to show 1,234,567 or 1234567.
How do I switch between US, UK and Metric?
Use the US / UK / Metric toggle in the top bar, or set a default under Settings. The whole app re-renders results in the system you pick — including recipes, square footage and body measurements.
Why do US and UK units sometimes differ for the same name?
Several units share a name but not a size — the US gallon (3.785 L) versus the UK/imperial gallon (4.546 L), the US fluid ounce versus the imperial fluid ounce, and US versus imperial pints, quarts and tons. The app keeps these distinct so a conversion is never silently wrong; pick the system that matches your source.

Units & the Library

What is the Unit Library?
A reference of every unit the app knows, grouped by family. Search by name or symbol (for example gallon, °C or knot) and open any unit to see its system, its exact factor and the authority behind it.
Where do the conversion factors come from?
Primarily NIST Special Publication 811 and the BIPM SI Brochure, the internationally recognized references for the International System of Units. Each unit page cites its source so you can verify it.
What does "SI" mean?
SI is the International System of Units — the modern metric system (meter, kilogram, second, etc.). Holding every value in SI base units is what lets the app convert accurately and consistently between any two units in a family.

Cooking & Recipe Mode

What does Recipe Mode do?
It scales a whole recipe at once and converts every ingredient between US, UK and metric measures, so you can halve, double or re-system a recipe without converting each line by hand.
Why are US, UK and metric cups (and pints) different?
A US cup is 237 mL, a metric cup is 250 mL, and a UK pint is about 20% larger than a US pint. These small differences add up across a recipe, so Recipe Mode flags them and recalculates every quantity for the system you choose.
Can it convert between weight and volume?
Volume-to-volume and weight-to-weight conversions are exact. Converting between weight and volume (for example cups of flour to grams) depends on the ingredient's density, so treat any such figure as an approximation and weigh for baking precision.

Square Footage & project estimates

What is the Square Footage tool for?
It turns the converter into a project estimator for flooring, tile, paint, turf or any area job. Add one or more areas, pick a shape for each — rectangle, square, circle or triangle — enter the dimensions, and it totals the area for you.
Can it add a waste factor and cost?
Yes. Apply a waste/overage percentage to cover offcuts and breakage, and enter a price per unit area to get an estimated material cost. It works in your chosen measurement system.

Body, health & sizes

How is BMI calculated?
BMI is your weight in kilograms divided by the square of your height in meters. Body & Health works it out live from whatever units you enter — feet and inches, stone and pounds, or metric — and shows your healthy-weight range. It is a general guide, not a medical diagnosis.
What else is in Body & Health besides BMI?
Daily calories (BMR + TDEE) with a protein/carb/fat macro split, ideal-weight formulas (Devine, Robinson, Hamwi), a U.S. Navy body-fat estimate with fat and lean mass, heart-rate training zones, and shoe, ring & clothing size converters. All figures are general guides, not medical advice.
How accurate are the US / UK / EU shoe-size conversions?
They follow standard retail conversion charts for women's and men's sizing, with foot length in centimeters. Sizing varies by brand and last, so when you are between sizes, size up.

Finance & invoicing

What can the Finance tab calculate?
Seven calculators — loan, home loan (weekly/biweekly/monthly), car loan, paycheck (gross to net), sales tax (add or extract), tip with split, and a savings forecast — each itemized on a printable receipt in $, £ or €. Figures are estimates; confirm exact terms with your lender or tax authority.
Can I make and send an invoice?
Yes. The Invoice tab builds a professional invoice with your logo, line items, tax, discount and deposit, plus Quote/Estimate/Invoice types, a PAID stamp and a scan-to-pay QR. Save it to Favorites, share it, download a self-contained file, or print a full-page PDF.
Which currency does Finance use?
Pick $, £ or € per document, or set a default currency under Settings so Finance and Receipts open in the one you use most.

Receipts

What does the Receipt tool do?
It builds an itemized cash receipt — add line items, set tax, a service charge, a percentage or fixed discount and a tip, choose Sale/Refund/Quote, then it auto-calculates the total and change due. Print it, download it, copy it, or save it for later.
How is a receipt different from an invoice?
A receipt records a completed payment (with change due), while an invoice requests payment (with due date, deposit and pay options). Use Receipt for point-of-sale style proof of purchase and Invoice for billing a client.

Barcodes & QR codes

Which barcode types can I generate?
Eight symbologies — Code 128, GS1-128, EAN-13, UPC-A, EAN-8, Code 39, Code 93 and ITF — with live check-digit validation, batch label sheets, and PNG or vector SVG download. You can also scan a barcode from an image.
Can I customise and scan QR codes?
Yes. QR codes support 11 content types (URL, Wi-Fi, contact, payment, event and more), one-tap themes, dot shapes, gradients, a custom eye color, transparent background and a center logo. Generation works offline, and you can scan a QR from an image or save it to Favorites.
Will my codes scan reliably when printed?
Yes — download the vector SVG for crisp printing at any size, keep good contrast between the code and its background, and leave a quiet margin around it. For barcodes, the live check-digit validation helps catch a mistyped number before you print.

Currency, crypto & markets

Are the currency and crypto rates live?
Yes — exchange rates for 19 currencies and prices for the top 1,000 cryptocurrencies are fetched from public APIs when you're online, then cached on your device. Offline, the last saved snapshot is used. Rates are indicative; confirm with your bank or exchange before transacting.
How many cryptocurrencies can I browse?
The Crypto tab's Directory loads the live top 1,000 coins by market cap with official logos, price and 24h change. It shows the top 100 by default with a "Show all 1,000" toggle, plus a search box that spans every coin, a Fear & Greed gauge at the top, an ISO 20022 group and a by-blockchain breakdown. All 1,000 are also available in the converter's coin pickers.
What's in the Markets tab?
Live, free-source market data: gold (via the PAX Gold token), the global crypto market cap, 24h volume and BTC dominance, top 24h gainers and losers, trending coins, USD forex pairs and the crypto Fear & Greed index. Stock indices, individual stocks, commodities and bond yields are listed for reference — live quotes for those need a paid provider, so no prices are shown rather than fabricated.
How often do the rates update?
Markets, Crypto and Currency auto-refresh on a timer you control — Off, 30 seconds, 1 minute or 5 minutes — set under Settings or with the Auto button beside Refresh on each of those tabs. You can also tap Refresh any time to update immediately.

Calculator & Dashboard

Is there a scientific calculator?
Yes. The Calculator has a scientific mode (sin/cos/tan, log/ln, √, powers, π, factorial) with a DEG/RAD toggle, memory keys, tax & percentage shortcuts, keyboard input, and a running tape. You can convert any result in one tap with "Open in Quick Convert".
What is the Dashboard?
It's your landing home — a bento grid with three layouts, a universal search, quick-launch tiles for every tool, live tickers, recent activity and a daily fact. It's the fastest way to jump into any part of the app, and you can set it (or any other tool) as the screen the app opens on under Settings.
What's on the History page?
A unified activity log of everything you've done — conversions, calculations and saved receipts, invoices, recipes, barcodes and QR codes — filterable by type, with one tap to reopen any entry. Quick-access Favorites and History icons also sit in the workspace top bar.

Settings & customization

What can I change in Settings?
Default measurement system (US/UK/Metric), light or dark theme, display precision (2–9 significant digits), thousands separators, reduce motion, default currency ($/£/€), live-rates auto-refresh interval, the default screen the app opens on, and a reset-all option.
Is there a light mode?
Yes — toggle between the default dark theme and a light theme in Settings. Your choice is remembered on your device.
Can I reduce animations?
Yes. Turn on Reduce motion in Settings to minimize animations and transitions across the app. The app also respects your operating system's reduced-motion preference.
How do I reset everything?
Settings has a Reset app data option. It opens a confirmation pop-up with a safety slide-toggle you must arm first; confirming permanently clears all saved preferences, history, favorites and saved items on this device and reloads the app with factory defaults.

Saving, sharing & export

How do I save a conversion or document?
On Quick Convert, set up your conversion and press Save to add it to Favorites for one-tap access. Invoices, receipts, recipes, barcodes and QR codes can likewise be saved, and everything you do is logged in History.
Can I print or download my work?
Yes. Invoices and receipts print as full-page PDFs; barcodes and QR codes export as PNG or vector SVG; and documents can be downloaded as self-contained files or copied to share.
Where are my favorites and history kept?
In your browser's local storage on this device only. They are not uploaded anywhere, so they stay private — but they also won't sync to another device or survive clearing your browser data.

Privacy & data

Does the app collect my data?
No. There are no servers and no analytics. Your preferences, favorites and history live only in your browser's local storage, on your own device.
What data leaves my device?
Only anonymous rate requests to public APIs when you view live Currency, Crypto or Markets (and an optional image fetch if you scan a barcode/QR from a picture). These carry no personal information and nothing you enter into any tool is ever transmitted.
Are cookies used?
The app uses local storage for your settings and saved items rather than tracking cookies. See the Cookie Policy in this Help & Legal Center for the full detail.

Install, offline & accessibility

Can I use it offline?
Yes. Once the page has loaded, conversions, recipes, square footage, body & health, finance, invoices, receipts, barcode and QR generation, and the calculator all run locally with no connection. Only live currency, crypto and market rates (and the optional image scanner) need the internet; offline they fall back to the last saved snapshot.
Can I install it like an app?
Yes — it's a Progressive Web App. Use your browser's "Install" or "Add to Home Screen" option (the homepage also has an Install button) to launch it full-screen from your home screen or desktop, with offline support.
Is the app accessible?
It aims to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA — keyboard navigation, visible focus rings, sufficient contrast, a light theme and a reduce-motion option. See the Accessibility statement in this Help & Legal Center for details and how to report an issue.

Troubleshooting

Rates won't load or look stale — what should I do?
Check your internet connection and press Refresh on the Markets, Crypto or Currency tab. Public APIs occasionally rate-limit; if so, wait a moment and try again. Offline, the app deliberately shows the last cached snapshot rather than nothing.
My saved items disappeared.
Saved data lives in this browser's local storage. Clearing browsing data, using private/incognito mode, or switching browser or device will remove or not include it. There's no account to restore from, so keep important documents by downloading them.
Something looks wrong or won't update.
Reload the page to fetch the latest version. If a setting seems stuck, you can use Reset app data in Settings to return everything to defaults. For conversion or accuracy queries, the Unit Library shows the exact factor and its cited source.

Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026. Your privacy is built in: I Smart Measure runs entirely on your device.

The short version

I Smart Measure has no servers, no accounts, no analytics and no advertising. We do not see, collect, transmit or sell any information about you. Everything happens locally in your browser.

Information we collect

None on our side. We operate no back-end that could receive your data. The app stores a small amount of information only in your browser's local storage, on your own device, so the app remembers your setup between visits:

  • Your chosen measurement system, display precision and theme.
  • Your saved Favorites and recent conversion history.
  • A flag recording your cookie-consent choice.

This data never leaves your device and is not readable by us or any third party.

Cookies & local storage

We use a single browser local-storage entry for essential functionality and do not use tracking or advertising cookies. See our Cookie Policy for the full list and how to clear it.

Third parties

The app's fonts and design assets are bundled with the application. We do not embed third-party trackers, social pixels or advertising networks. If you reach this app through a host or app store, that provider's own privacy policy governs their services.

Your rights

Because your data lives only on your device, you are always in full control. Under regulations such as the GDPR and CCPA you have rights to access, correct and erase personal data — here you can exercise them directly by clearing your browser's site data, which removes every stored preference, favorite and history item instantly.

Children's privacy

I Smart Measure is a general-audience utility and does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes & contact

We may update this policy as the app evolves; the date above reflects the latest revision. Questions? Email privacy@ismartmeasure.com.

Cookie Policy

Last updated: June 2026. We keep this simple — essentials only, nothing that tracks you.

What we store

I Smart Measure does not use traditional tracking cookies. Instead it uses your browser's local storage for strictly necessary functionality. No advertising, analytics or cross-site tracking technologies are present.

Storage we use

  • ism_state_v1 — essential. Remembers your measurement system, precision, theme, Favorites and history so the app works between visits.
  • ism_cookie_consent — essential. Records that you have acknowledged this notice so the banner does not reappear.

Both entries are first-party, stay on your device, and have no expiry beyond your own browser settings.

Managing & clearing

You are in full control. Clearing your browser's site data, or using its "clear cookies and site data" option for this page, removes every entry above. Note that doing so also clears your saved preferences and Favorites.

Changes

If we ever introduce additional storage, we will update this page and, where required, ask for your consent first. Questions? Email privacy@ismartmeasure.com.

Accessibility Statement

Last updated: June 2026. We want everyone to be able to convert with ease.

Our commitment

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, and treat accessibility as an ongoing part of the product, not an afterthought.

What we do

  • Keyboard friendly — interactive controls are reachable and operable by keyboard, with visible focus rings.
  • Readable contrast — text and UI colors are chosen to meet AA contrast targets in both light and dark themes.
  • Light & dark themes — switch to whichever is easier on your eyes; your choice is remembered.
  • Scalable text — the layout reflows with browser zoom and text resizing.
  • Semantic structure — proper landmarks, headings and labels help screen readers convey hierarchy.
  • Clear icons, no emoji — vector line icons are used for meaning, with text labels alongside.
  • Respectful motion — transitions are short and subtle; entrance animations resolve to a stable end state.

Known limitations

Some dense data tables and very wide unit grids may require horizontal scrolling on small screens. We are working to improve these areas.

Feedback

If you encounter a barrier or have a suggestion, please tell us at access@ismartmeasure.com. We treat accessibility reports as a priority.
